Altivar 630 vs Altivar 930 — which to specify
The ATV630 is the “machine process” drive: compact, panel-mount, 0.75 kW to 160 kW, IP21 or IP55 enclosures, and process-optimised function blocks. Specify it when the drive sits in the same panel as the motor load and the duty is primarily pump, fan, compressor, or conveyor.
The ATV930 is the “industry” drive: 0.75 kW to 1.5 MW (and up to 2.4 MW in parallel-connected builds), with cabinet and enclosed drive options, for process-critical duty and larger motors. Specify it when the drive is a standalone unit, when you need cabinet-level IP55 / IP54 build, or when the duty exceeds the ATV630’s 160 kW ceiling.
Common Altivar Process applications
Pump and fan control — water, wastewater, HVAC
Multi-pump function blocks, sleep/wake logic, cavitation detection, pipe-fill and pipe-break detection. Direct integration with pressure and flow transmitters via 4-20 mA or Modbus.
Conveyor and mixer duty — food and beverage, mining
Torque control, load-sharing between drives, master-follower configurations, programmable ramp profiles.
Compressor VSD retrofit
Direct replacement for fixed-speed compressor motors, with soft-start characteristics and energy-saving profiles across variable-demand operation.
EcoStruxure Machine Expert integration
Both drives integrate natively with EcoStruxure Machine Expert and Control Expert, with pre-built function blocks for most process applications. SoMove configuration software is free and available from Schneider for local and remote drive commissioning.
IEC 61800-5-1 safety functions
Built-in Safe Torque Off (STO), Safe Stop 1 (SS1), and Safely-Limited Speed (SLS) functions with SIL-3 / PLe certification. Safety I/O wires directly to GuardLogix, Siemens Safety Integrated, or Schneider’s Preventa XPS safety controllers.
Australian compliance
Altivar Process drives conform to AS/NZS 61800 (adjustable-speed electrical power drive systems) and are compatible with AS/NZS 4024 functional safety of machinery standards. RCM (Regulatory Compliance Mark) coverage applies.
