Product details
M12 Digital PVC-Body Conductivity Sensor — Chlorinated & Mild Acid Service
The InstroDirect IDC-M12-PVC M12 Digital PVC Chemical-Resistant Conductivity Sensor is a chemical-resistant two-electrode conductivity probe with a PVC body. Rated for chlorinated pool / spa water, mild acids and alkalis, and chemical dosing loops where 316 stainless would corrode. The PVC body is rated for continuous immersion and the M12 head simplifies panel integration. This is an economical probe for residential use and non corrosovie fluids that is inert to PVC.
Typical Australian Applications
- Swimming pool and spa chlorination monitoring
- Chemical dosing loops (acid, caustic, hypochlorite)
- Cooling tower water treatment
- Plating and rinse tank pre-dilution
- Reclaimed water and greywater systems
Why Integrators Choose the IDC-M12-PVC
- PVC body is immune to free chlorine that pits 316 stainless
- EPDM O-rings handle oxidising pool chemistries
- M12 head keeps electronics dry above the water line
- Digital RS485 output eliminates analog noise from dosing pump VFDs
- Cheaper than PEEK — sized for commercial pool / spa operators
Installation & Calibration Notes
Install in a bypass sample line downstream of the chlorine dosing point. Calibrate monthly with 12.88 mS/cm KCl. For continuous chlorinated duty replace EPDM O-rings every 12 months.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the maximum free chlorine this handles?
PVC body tolerates up to 10 ppm free chlorine continuously. Above 20 ppm, use the PEEK-body alternative (IDC-M12-PEEK).
Is this suitable for drinking water?
The PVC and EPDM materials are generally AS/NZS 4020 compliant but pool-grade. For certified potable water contact, order the IDC-2W-SS-C or IDC-2W-SS-H variants.
Can it measure saltwater pool conductivity?
Yes. Saltwater pools typically run 4–6 mS/cm, well within range.

Why InstroDirect vs Endress+Hauser or HACH in Australia
InstroDirect supplies the same grade of water-quality sensor that Australian councils, WWTP integrators, pharma plants, and food & beverage operators specify from Endress+Hauser and HACH — at a significantly lower landed cost and without vendor lock-in.
| Factor | InstroDirect | Endress+Hauser / HACH |
|---|---|---|
| Digital protocol | Open RS485 Modbus RTU — integrates with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider, Beckhoff, or any SCADA | Proprietary (E+H Memosens / HACH SC digital) — locked to the vendor’s transmitter |
| Technical support | Australian field engineers with 20+ years automation experience | Remote support via offshore ticket queues |
| On-site calibration | InstroDirect technicians available across QLD, NSW, VIC with formal calibration certificate | Third-party authorised service network, longer turnaround |
| Price | Parallel-import model — no distributor margin stack, typically 30–50% below equivalent brand pricing | Premium brand pricing with tiered distributor markup |
| Replacement parts | Standard consumables ordered on demand from InstroDirect | Proprietary cartridges and cells, tied to the brand |
Moving away from Memosens or SC digital protocols frees you to mix and match sensors with any Modbus-capable transmitter or PLC. InstroDirect probes drop straight into an existing control system without a new proprietary transmitter.
