Why InstroDirect for Allen-Bradley 1734 POINT I/O in Australia?
Australian panel builders, system integrators, OEM machine builders, and maintenance teams at mid-market manufacturers choose InstroDirect for Rockwell Automation 1734 POINT I/O because we offer the same genuine part numbers sold through Rockwell’s local distributor channel, sourced through authorised international parallel-import routes, and backed by full manufacturer warranty. The modules arrive in factory packaging, carry Rockwell firmware, and drop straight into Studio 5000 Logix Designer without AOP surgery.
1734 POINT I/O explained
Modular architecture — one adapter, many modules
The 1734 system starts with a network adapter (AENT or AENTR for EtherNet/IP, ADN for DeviceNet, APB for PROFIBUS-DP) mounted on a termination base. Digital, analog, safety, and specialty modules clip onto the same DIN rail, each drawing power from the adapter and communicating via the system’s proprietary backplane. Modules are hot-swappable with the correct termination base, and the architecture is flat — there is no chassis to specify in advance.
Safety I/O in a GuardLogix loop
The 1734-IB8S, 1734-OB8S, and 1734-IE4S modules integrate directly into GuardLogix controllers via the safety certificate contained in each module’s EDS. Typical use cases: e-stop circuits, light curtain monitoring, guard lock interfacing, robotic cell gating, and safety-rated analog monitoring (SIL-2 on the IE4S). All modules support PLe Cat 4 per ISO 13849 and SIL-3 per IEC 61508 in the standard GuardLogix architecture.
High-speed counters and motion
The 1734-VHSC5 (5V differential) and VHSC24 (24V single-ended) handle quadrature encoders up to 1 MHz, pulse totalisation, PWM output, and period measurement. The 1734-SSI module provides a direct interface to absolute SSI-protocol encoders for lift position, rotary indexing, and linear measurement applications.
Who specifies 1734 POINT I/O?
OEM machine builders
Conveyor, packaging, labelling, and food-and-beverage OEMs use 1734 POINT I/O when they need distributed I/O at the machine but want to keep the logic in a central CompactLogix or ControlLogix. EtherNet/IP adapters with DLR ring topology give fault tolerance without extra wiring.
Water, wastewater, and infrastructure integrators
Panel builders working to AS/NZS 3000 specifications for water utilities and WWTP projects use 1734 POINT I/O on remote kiosks and pump stations, with the adapter on EtherNet/IP and the modules sized to the I/O count at each site.
Retrofit integrators
Customers replacing legacy 1771 chassis I/O or Flex I/O choose POINT I/O for its smaller footprint, lower cost per point, and native Studio 5000 support. EDS files for every module are pre-bundled in recent Studio versions.
Technical specifications and firmware
Every product page lists the Rockwell catalog number, power consumption, ambient temperature range (typically -20°C to +55°C for standard modules), mounting dimensions, and minimum Studio 5000 firmware revision. If a specification isn’t shown, check the current Rockwell 1734 publication (1734-SG001) — we’ll match it.
Parallel import and Australian warranty
“Parallel import” means we source genuine Rockwell product through authorised international distributors rather than through the Australian Rockwell channel. The product is identical — same part number, same firmware, same manufacturer warranty. What you gain is flexible lead time and competitive pricing. What you give up is the local-distributor contract wrap (FOC replacements, extended terms). If that contract is critical to your project, we’ll tell you and refer you to the Rockwell AU channel. For most panel-build and integration work, it isn’t.
