Online Nitrite Nitrogen (NO2-N) Analyzer
The InstroDirect IDOA-NO2 Nitrite Nitrogen Online Analyzer is a continuous online nitrite nitrogen analyzer using the Griess-Ilosvay colorimetric method. Nitrite is a key intermediate in biological nitrification and a regulated parameter in drinking water and aquaculture, where high NO2-N levels indicate process failure or toxic conditions.

Typical Australian Applications
- Drinking water nitrite compliance (AU drinking water limit 0.9 mg/L NO2-N)
- WWTP nitrification stage monitoring
- Aquaculture toxicity early warning (nitrite is highly toxic to fish)
- Industrial cooling water nitrite corrosion inhibitor dosing
- Food & beverage ingredient water QA
Why Choose InstroDirect for Online Water Analyzers
- Continuous online replaces labour-intensive lab grab sampling
- Griess-Ilosvay is the regulatory reference method for potable water
- Very low detection limit (0.01 mg/L) suits drinking water compliance
- Automated zero/span checks ensure ongoing data integrity
- Fully reagent-based — no sensor replacement every 12 months
Installation, Commissioning & Service
Sample line at 100 mL/min from a representative point. 240 VAC power, RS485 Modbus link to SCADA. InstroDirect provides on-site commissioning and can integrate the alarm outputs into existing chlorination or aeration control loops.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does nitrite relate to nitrate?
Nitrite (NO2-N) is an intermediate. Ammonia is oxidised to nitrite (by Nitrosomonas bacteria) then nitrite to nitrate (by Nitrobacter). Elevated nitrite indicates incomplete nitrification — a diagnostic signal in WWTPs and aquaculture.
Can I combine this with a nitrate analyzer?
Yes. The IDOA-NO3 nitrate analyzer uses a complementary method and the two analyzers share the same platform, reagent stock, and service contract.
