Product details
M12 Digital Stainless 2-Electrode Conductivity Sensor
The InstroDirect IDC-M12-SS M12 Digital Stainless 2-Electrode Conductivity Sensor is a compact M12-connector digital conductivity probe with a 316 stainless body, designed for plug-and-play installation into modern PLC systems with M12 A-coded I/O. Zero wiring screws, zero cable gland fussing — screw the M12 connector on and the probe streams calibrated Modbus RTU data to your controller.

Typical Australian Applications
- Modern panel-mount PLC systems (AB Micro 800, Siemens ET200SP)
- Industrial IoT gateways (Advantech, Moxa, Beckhoff)
- Modular skid systems where probes are swapped between batches
- OEM datalogger integration
- Laboratory test rigs with M12 I/O
Why Integrators Choose the IDC-M12-SS
- M12 A-coded quick-disconnect cuts install time by 80% vs terminal glands
- Compatible with every major industrial M12 cable supplier
- 316 stainless body handles temperatures to 100 °C
- Daisy-chainable on a single Modbus RS485 trunk (up to 32 sensors)
- Digital signalling eliminates analog drift and EMI pickup
Installation & Calibration Notes
Screw the probe into a 1/2″ NPT boss and the M12 cable onto the connector hand-tight. Terminate the RS485 trunk with a 120 ohm resistor at each end. Power on and query default slave ID 0x01 at 9600 bps 8N1.
Frequently Asked Questions
What M12 cable do I need?
Any M12 5-pin A-coded cable with twisted pairs. InstroDirect stocks 2 m, 5 m, and 10 m variants. Generic industrial M12 cables from Phoenix Contact, Turck, or Murr will also work.
Can I daisy-chain multiple sensors?
Yes — up to 32 sensors on a single RS485 Modbus RTU trunk. Each probe is individually addressable (slave ID configurable 1–247).

Why InstroDirect vs Endress+Hauser or HACH in Australia
InstroDirect supplies the same grade of water-quality sensor that Australian councils, WWTP integrators, pharma plants, and food & beverage operators specify from Endress+Hauser and HACH — at a significantly lower landed cost and without vendor lock-in.
| Factor | InstroDirect | Endress+Hauser / HACH |
|---|---|---|
| Digital protocol | Open RS485 Modbus RTU — integrates with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider, Beckhoff, or any SCADA | Proprietary (E+H Memosens / HACH SC digital) — locked to the vendor’s transmitter |
| Technical support | Australian field engineers with 20+ years automation experience | Remote support via offshore ticket queues |
| On-site calibration | InstroDirect technicians available across QLD, NSW, VIC with formal calibration certificate | Third-party authorised service network, longer turnaround |
| Price | Parallel-import model — no distributor margin stack. | Premium brand pricing with tiered distributor markup |
| Replacement parts | Standard consumables ordered on demand from InstroDirect | Proprietary cartridges and cells, tied to the brand |
Moving away from Memosens or SC digital protocols frees you to mix and match sensors with any Modbus-capable transmitter or PLC. InstroDirect probes drop straight into an existing control system without a new proprietary transmitter.
